In This Crazy Life...

I'm a member of a Facebook Group, Furniture and Big Stuff Only. Most of  the time I just keep scrolling , but every now and then something catches my eye. I have wanted new night stands for our bedroom. My night stand goes with a bedroom suite I had in high school and Kev's was a stand my brother built for DVD player and what not a long time ago. So when these came across my  Facebook feed I jumped on it. I wanted to paint them black with teal drawers to match the dresser and replace the drawer pulls with some that match the metal of dresser. I drove to Alexander to pick them up the next afternoon. They have been sitting in the garage since then. This morning I didn't have anything to do, so I pulled them out. I gave them a good wipe down. I didn't bother sanding them. None of the scratches were too deep and I always use paint and primer in one. I love them!!!! Here they are in the bedroom. I still have to tweak the decorations on them, but these will do for now. ...

I got a bag of corn Saturday. A bag has somewhere between 80-90 ears. I usually use half of them for making corn relish. They other half goes in the freezer. Sunday morning I went to the store to get the other ingredients needed. My friend gave me more cucumbers Friday night, so I wanted to make bread and butter pickles too.  I have been busy canning all summer and I love it!! Sunday night once it cooled off, I tackled the garage door project. I found a link on Pinterest that showed how to use gel stain to redo your garage door so it looks like wood. I bough some a few weeks ago and have just been waiting until I had some time. I love the way it looks. I didn't take a before picture and don't feel like digging through albums looking for one. Before it was lighter brown and very dull. It looked like a regular metal garage door. I have carriage door handles and brackets to put on it once I get on the clear coat. I added a little fall to our house this weekend. I used the artificial stems and flowers that we used for our wedding.  For the dining room center piece I bought a couple of bags of mixed gourds and added a few stems. I stuck some flowers in the urns by the front door and added a few pumpkins and bought a few mums and some more pumpkins for out back by our bedroom door. We slept in Sunday. It was so nice not to have anything to do. Woke up Thursday morning to a snake in my living room! Perla brought it in. She is no longer allowed to come in and out while we are sleeping. I didn't even notice it in her mouth when I stumbled to open the door at 3:20 in the morning.  Kev helped me take apart three pallets Saturday. I'm going to use them to make a head board for the guest bedroom. I enjoyed our productive yet lazy weekend.

We spent Memorial Weekend working in the yard. Saturday night we made a trip to Tractor Supply tostock up on weed/poison ivy killer, spider spray, and seven dust. after laying around for a few hours Sunday morning, we got started. Kev sprayed for spiders first. I've seen way too many for my liking in and around the house. I mean we do basically live in the woods. While he did that I sanded and spray painted two lounge chairs I bought from a friend. This is the before slightly rusted and a red table. This is the after. I found these cushions at Garden Ridge. Talk about overwhelming, they had twelve rows of cushions and a back wall full. I'm not kidding you. I've been looking online at a few places and there really isn't much variety and any one store. These are the pillows that I made for the chairs. I need to make a few more. We also cleared out several small trees in the back yard. We have four huge burn piles. We can actually see parts of the lake ...

I have several random flower pots. Some are nice heavy pots and others are cheap plastic ones. They were all a shade of brown or terra cotta. Boring! I used the fabric from the pillows and this owl wind chime as color inspiration.  I spray painted all the pots today. I love them! All they need now are flowers. Hopefully that will happen tomorrow or sometime this week. I also gave this pedestal a fresh coat of paint. And this glass vase.  It's amazing what a difference some spray paint can make. Now I have all NEW pots and it only cost me $12 in paint!

Wednesday I messed around the house some. I found this material at Hobby Lobby Tuesday and wanted to make some pillows for outside. Well, come to find out the spool pin on my sewing machine broken during the move. I will have to order a replacement. However, I wanted my pillows now! Like I said, I feel like I have been nesting this week. I ran to the store and bought some Stitch Witch. It worked perfectly. I chose to make covers so that I could change them out if I want to without buying new pillows. It also allows you to wash them if needed. I used a pattern I found on Pinterest. Please ignore the clip lamp. I have fans coming Monday, so we will have real light out back. A friend of mine is getting rid of two rod iron chaise lounges and a small table. I told her I wanted them. I'm going to put red cushions on the lounge chairs and make two rectangular pillows for them. I will finally have a real table instead of an old column. I have wanted a medal display for awhile now. Every now and then I will browse etsy looking at them, but just can't pay $35-$40 for something that I can make. Last week I had to get wooden dowel rods for a Dr. suess photo booth for school (that is another post). While looking I found a large piece of wood that would work perfectly for what I wanted. You would think with all this scrap wood around here I would have found one already, but I haven't and this one already had the finished edges. I grabbed a packet of screw hooks and a purple paint pen. Using a ruler, I drew a straight line where I wanted the screws to go. Then I marked every inch and a half for a screw hook. I'll be honest, at first I was screwing them in with my fingers. They started to hurt and I couldn't get them tight. Kev saw what I was doing and told me to use the screw driver to turn it. It made it SO much easier! All screwed in. Since we have been snowed in, I used paint that I had here....
