Baby Birds

Perla and I watched this little mama bird build a nest one Saturday morning. I went out a few days later and there were two tiny eggs. I checked it a few days later and there were two more. I have been very careful not to disturb them because I didn't want her to leave them. Anytime I am out there she pokes her head out to see what's going on. This week I checked the nest  and there were baby birds! I've been sitting outside at night watching her feed them. I can't wait to see them get bigger and learn to fly.

Flower Bed Update

Here are my semi-finished flower beds. I won't plant the trees I want in the until fall. I will replace the potted Tulip tree with another tree that will stay green all year. Maybe a Drawf Magnolia since it won't lose its leaves in the winter. I think I want to add two very small and short Japanese Maples to this front bed. Our garden bed. everything is growing so far. I also have lettuce and herbs in pots on the back patio that are doing well.  If you look at the house in the background you can see that we are waiting to pour concrete in the drive and a walkway. Once that is done and I get enough rocks racked out of the front I will plant white azailas in front of the garage windows and try to see some grass. It's just been a process, but I'm okay with waiting.  I finally got this table set from my grandmother' house and purchased these cushions for the chairs. They match the red cushions one the lounge chairs. ...

I Finally Have Flower Beds!

I've been working on creating the outline for my flower beds. All of the rocks have come from our yard and I have plenty more. Last week Kev's dad brought us several truck loads of dirt to go in them and the garden bed he built us. Right now I am only making two beds. This one is on the side of the house with the garage. This bed is in the front of the house beside the porch. It doesn't get much sun. Since I know very little about plants and gardening, a friend is coming over next weekend to help me pick out plants and flowers. I will post updated pictures once everything is in the ground. Our raised garden bed. It does get full sun. This picture was taken in the very late afternoon. I will have to purchase some manure soil to mix in with the sandy soil already in there I finally bought a container for our sand, rocks, and shells we brought back from Ireland. I think it turned out great. Now I can display them on a shelf somewhere.

Dogwoods

Sunday I inventoried our Dogwood Trees. We have 24 total. Some are just small bushes. There are probably about 12 big trees. I marked them so that when we are clearing brush later we won't kill them. My hope is to clear out some around them so they can all grow into large trees. They are absolutely beautiful to look at!!! I want to get some more pictures, but I got Poison Ivy on my legs the other day so I'm staying out of the woods for now.

Flower Pot Makeover

I have several random flower pots. Some are nice heavy pots and others are cheap plastic ones. They were all a shade of brown or terra cotta. Boring! I used the fabric from the pillows and this owl wind chime as color inspiration.  I spray painted all the pots today. I love them! All they need now are flowers. Hopefully that will happen tomorrow or sometime this week. I also gave this pedestal a fresh coat of paint. And this glass vase.  It's amazing what a difference some spray paint can make. Now I have all NEW pots and it only cost me $12 in paint!
