Projects and Summer Canning

I've felt a little nauseous lately. Saturday night we went to see Jurassic World in 3D and the motion made me a little woosie. Then this morning, I went into summer school, ate my usual breakfast of strawberries and cottage cheese and suddenly felt sick and threw it back up. I walked around to visit some rooms, the whole time feeling yucky. I was sent home to rest. Around noon I felt a little better and was able to keep down a few Triscits.  I got up and started making salsa while I watched City of Ember and Grace is Gone. I wanted a little more flavor and spice this year, so I found a different recipe.   Here is last years recipe. Once again i didn't follow the recipe to a tee. I added Jalapeno peppers and real garlic. I like how it used purple, white, and sweet onions. I also used brown sugar and a little tomato paste. I had eight pounds of tomatoes left after making one batch of salsa and wanted to try something different. I found a recipe for BBQ sauce.   I use...

Snow Day #4 and #5

More snow days! UGH!! I'm over them! Sunday afternoon we to eat a late lunch/early dinner around 3:00. it started sleeting and snowing pretty heavily while we were there. I had even talked Ken into walking around Home girds with me after we ate. Instead we headed straight home. I remember too well last year when my parents and I were caught out in a snow storm .   It didn't really do much Sunday night, but they canceled school based on what was predicted to come Monday late morning. Kev ran a few errands and I set out to get paint to finish the hutch. While in Home Depot it started snowing pretty hard. I made it home just in time. By the way, the AWD Acadia is a beast on slippery roads.  I gave the hutch another coat of gray and painted the back red. I still need to get knobs. I was missing a few of the ones that were on it or I would just paint them black. I also mixed some black paint with the green I bought to make it a little darker for our dresser. I pa...

Snow Day

As predicted, we received an inch of ice.  I found this picture online. Today was parent/teacher conference day. Which means I would have had a workday and I had lots of work to do, but I've been wanting a snow day. The whole yard was a giant sheet of ice. Kev played with the dogs. Later that afternoon, we got bored and walked to the gas station about a mile away. I was not willing to get the Acadia out. Our street was a solid sheet of ice. It was fun to walk. The sunset was beautiful when we got back. This is the pasture our front yard overlooks. He was tired. I was productive during the day. I painted our hutch. I still need the red paint for the back panels. I also painted the drawers on our dresser teal. It was quite dark enough, so i am going to see if they can make it darker before I put on another coat. I didn't get any school work done toady, but I have a feeling that I will be stuck here again tomorrow.

V-Day

We had a very low key Valentine's Day. I cooked dinner and we watched a movie. The Menu: Cranberry and Feta Salad with Raspberry Vinaigrette Pan Seared Filet Roasted Asparagus Pan-Fried Honey-Lemon Fingerling Potatoes Peanut Butter Brownies Everything was delicious! I ran to Home Depot this Saturday Morning to get paint. There's a chance for winter weather Monday. I will have a chance to paint some furniture. I didn't like all the brown on the wall, so I painted my shelves gray. It's the same gray I will use for the hutch. This was Saturday's forecast, spring like temperatures with a winter storm watch.

Christmas Painting

My old teacher friends and I went to Painting with a Twist. I went that one time with my mother's church group, but this was much better. The guy actually instructed us on how to paint the picture. I chose to use blues. The one he did was gold. The background. the white chalk line you see is the outline for the tree.   The finished product! It was the easiest painting ever. The tree is just dots that you create using the bottom of a paintbrush. We used a larger one for the big dots and a smaller one for the others. Katie and I Everyone's finished product. I'd love to paint a very large one for above the fireplace. I love the green background with red dots.

Flower Pot Makeover

I have several random flower pots. Some are nice heavy pots and others are cheap plastic ones. They were all a shade of brown or terra cotta. Boring! I used the fabric from the pillows and this owl wind chime as color inspiration.  I spray painted all the pots today. I love them! All they need now are flowers. Hopefully that will happen tomorrow or sometime this week. I also gave this pedestal a fresh coat of paint. And this glass vase.  It's amazing what a difference some spray paint can make. Now I have all NEW pots and it only cost me $12 in paint!

Paint Party

Last night I went to one of the ever most popular paint parties with my mom's church's women's group. (Boy, that's a lot of possessive nouns.) It was actually quiet fun and I really think I want to buy a few canvases and paint them for the house. Several years ago I painted a few fun girly canvases for a friends little girls. Anyways. Back to the party. We painted crosses. The background. Drawing and painting the cross. lots of people used a stencil they had, but I didn't like the shape of it.  The finished product. The orange wasn't bright enough, I'm going to touch it up with some orange I have here. I honestly can't wait to start painting more. I loved art classes that I took in Jr. High and was actually really good. For some reason once we moved to Lake Hamilton I only danced. I stopped running track and taking art.
