And So the Week Begins...

Monday afternoon I took Lilly to the vet. She's always so shaky and tries to sit in my lap. Dr. Barron loves her and tells her every year how lucky she is to have found us. She is the oldest living dog he knows of with her sphincter condition. I can't believe she will be four in November! Everything check out great and the little pig even lost five pounds since last year. The garden is producing. I picked all of this Monday night. I'm going to have to make stuffed bell peppers. Next year I want more jalapeno and banana pepper plants so I can pickle my own. Kev goes through so many jars of them. Tuesday I drove to Hot Springs to visit with mom and help clean out some of my grandmothers things. They are having a huge yard sale this Saturday. I also went by to visit my grandpa. He has Chemo this week and I wanted to check on him. Wednesday I had to work until 3:30 and after that I ran to the store to get supplies for canning dill pickles. I have never done it before, b...

I Can't Believe It's Been One Year!

We've been trying to go camping for weeks now and there is always something that comes up. That being said we decided to spend our anniversary weekend camping. We tries to stay at Mount Magazine last year, however all of their cabins were full. When I called last week they had one campsite left.  We borrowed the popup from Kev's dad. He has told us we can basically have it. I've been looking up camper remodels on Pinterest. A fresh coat of paint on the cabinets and new curtains will give it a much needed updated look. There is really nothing wrong with the inside now. Camper manufacturers just use the ugliest of material! The mountain driving in.  By the time we got there and set up, it was almost dark. We gathered some wood and built a small fire. our campsite was handicapped accessible so the fire pit was waist high. There was a nice deserted road on the backside of the campgrounds. I took the dogs for a walk each mooring and let them wander in the woods off th...

Island Camping on Lake Ouachita

We spent the weekend camping at Lake Ouachita for my birthday! I absolutely love island camping. It's hard to do often unless you have easy access to a boat. My brother bought my grandmother's boat last year, so now we can borrow it anytime. I'm so ready for an SUV! We need the room. Kev's truck is a work truck and is not wextended cab. When we have the dogs with us, Lilly has to lay in the floorboard and hatfiled is in Kev's face. We arrived at Brady Mountain about 5:00, however the battery was dead and had to wait on Spence to bring us his other one. This put us getting out there a little later than we wanted, but we managed to quickly set up camp before we lost all daylight. The sunset on our way to the island.   We quickly realized the geese guarding the island and quacking at the dogs were trying to protect their eggs. This one survived. They cracked open the other one we found. The island had a nice grassy area with thtese beautiful purple...

Camping Our Way

Long before Kev came into the picture, I would go camping with my friend M, her sister and her husband. Most of the time we camped on an island in the middle of Lake Ouachita. We would take a generator to run lights, music, and charge phones, but other than that we roughed it. There have been a few times that I have camped at sites with electrical hookups and showers. When Kev and I started dating, he took me to Lake Winona. His dad took him there to hunt growing up. You are literally 30 minutes from the nearest country store that may or may not be open. There isn't any cell phone service unless you drive 10 minutes up the mountain and there is not any electricity. This is the site we camped at Sunday night after we left the Caddo River. We didn't have a generator this time but had a converter for the truck, so we were able to blow the air matress up and charge our phones enough to listen to music. I was kind of disappointed that it wouldn't run the coffee pot, but oh w...
