Camping Our Way

Long before Kev came into the picture, I would go camping with my friend M, her sister and her husband. Most of the time we camped on an island in the middle of Lake Ouachita. We would take a generator to run lights, music, and charge phones, but other than that we roughed it. There have been a few times that I have camped at sites with electrical hookups and showers. When Kev and I started dating, he took me to Lake Winona. His dad took him there to hunt growing up. You are literally 30 minutes from the nearest country store that may or may not be open. There isn't any cell phone service unless you drive 10 minutes up the mountain and there is not any electricity.
This is the site we camped at Sunday night after we left the Caddo River. We didn't have a generator this time but had a converter for the truck, so we were able to blow the air matress up and charge our phones enough to listen to music. I was kind of disappointed that it wouldn't run the coffee pot, but oh well. I need to get a camping french press anyways.
This is what camp looked like about an hour after being there. Everything is set up. (I know the rain guard isn't on the tent correctly. I was just letting it dry out after the showers we had that morning. We don't usually sleep with it on when there isn't anyone around.)

Anyways...
Kev resting in my hammock. It is by far my favorite place to nap.
This site, there are two different ones we like, is right by a creek. It comes in handy when it is flowing.

We did get a few showers Sunday evening. Once we saw the dark clouds rolling in, we secured everything and drove up the mountain to check the radar. We were out of the storms path, so we just got a few showers. This is the rain set up. I put the tarp up to keep us dry.
We didn't think about putting the firewood up until it was too late. So Kev started the fire with the twigs that were under the canopy, lots of paper, and some wet wood. It took awhile, but it finally started blazing.
Roasting a hot dog.
Monday was gorgeous. We drove down to the lake and up the mountain.

The view from about halfway up the mountain.
Even though I enjoyed the company of Saturday night. I sure did enjoy the peace and quite of Lake Winona. It was nice to not have the dogs to worry about and have Kev all to myself!!

The Crud

I feel like crud! I've blown my nose so much this weekend that my face is raw and red. I can't imagine how I have this much snot in me. Anyways. I didn't get my Thursday 3 miler in or my 9 mile long run this weekend. How can I run when I can't freaking breathe?!? I've been taking medicine and using my Nettie Pot, so here's hoping I feel like running towards the end of this week. So glad this is a short work week and a field trip on Wednesday. I NEED a break!!

Ballyseede Castle

Tralle was a good stopping point from Dingle to Doolin. When looking for places to stay I came across the Ballyseede Castle Hotel. It was a little pricey, but since we had such great deals on all of the other B&Bs, I splurged. It's one of the best known Castle Hotels in Ireland, has a history dating back to the 1590’s and sits on 30 acres of native woodlands. The castle has 23 en-suite bedrooms and 3 beautiful private rooms complimented by enchanting formal gardens. To read about the history of the castle click here. We stayed in the Coghill room.   We had a nice view of the gardens. Here are other pictures from inside the castle. We had to have our picture made with the knights.   We Googled and found a restaurant in town that was supposed to be delicious. It was nestled on the shore overlooking the bay. We arrived about 5:30 and watched the sunset. The food was fabulous, however the service was not. ...

Winter Weather Cancels Marathon

This weekend was supposed to be the St. Jude Marathon in Memphis. I signed up back in June and reserved my hotel. However, mother nature had other plans. We had a round of bad winter weather that left roads iced over for several days, so they ended up canceling the race. I checked and luckily my hotel will refund me my money, while others are not. Now, I was going to complete this race, but had I trained for it? No. I've been way too busy the past few months to take hours out of my dad and weekend to run. I had a house to finish and move into and a wedding to plan and attend. Anyways. I'm thinking about running the Nashville one in April. We will see. On another note the winter weather had us trapped on our hill for four days, before the temperatures reached 32 and the ice could melt some. Kev and I definitely enjoyed spending some quality time together and had a blast sledding.
