Floating the Caddo River

We floated the Caddo River with some friends Saturday. The scenery was beautiful and the water was flowing nicely. It took us a little over four hours and we only flipped the canoe once.

We came to some quick rapids and very low trees. While trying to duck under the trees, so our heads didn't get knocked off, we both leaned too far and there we went. Luckily everything was in dry bags and tied down. Well, almost everything. Kev was trying to put his phone back into the dry box but didn't get to it fast enough. His phone got wet, but seems to work ok after sitting in a bag of rice for a few days. I didn't have my shoes strapped tight so they slid off. A friend in front of us managed to grab one shoe and one paddle. We carefully walked the canoe across the rapid and dumped the water out. I will admit I was pissed off about my shoe. I didn't talk to Kev for awhile. I know it wasn't his fault, but I wanted to be mad at someone. He promised he would replace them.

About an hour later we were all pulled over talking and a guy in a kayak comes by and asks if we lost a kids water shoe. Kev heard kids and said no. I quickly said yes. I mean I do wear a size six and some people may think that is child's size. I asked if it was a Merrill and it was! I  know they could have probably been replaced, but those were my favorite and I've had them for several years. We never found the other paddle, but did find another paddle someone else lost. Anyways. It was a nice float. More on the rest on the weekend later.

Ballyseede Castle

Tralle was a good stopping point from Dingle to Doolin. When looking for places to stay I came across the Ballyseede Castle Hotel. It was a little pricey, but since we had such great deals on all of the other B&Bs, I splurged. It's one of the best known Castle Hotels in Ireland, has a history dating back to the 1590’s and sits on 30 acres of native woodlands. The castle has 23 en-suite bedrooms and 3 beautiful private rooms complimented by enchanting formal gardens. To read about the history of the castle click here. We stayed in the Coghill room.   We had a nice view of the gardens. Here are other pictures from inside the castle. We had to have our picture made with the knights.   We Googled and found a restaurant in town that was supposed to be delicious. It was nestled on the shore overlooking the bay. We arrived about 5:30 and watched the sunset. The food was fabulous, however the service was not. ...

Winter Weather Cancels Marathon

This weekend was supposed to be the St. Jude Marathon in Memphis. I signed up back in June and reserved my hotel. However, mother nature had other plans. We had a round of bad winter weather that left roads iced over for several days, so they ended up canceling the race. I checked and luckily my hotel will refund me my money, while others are not. Now, I was going to complete this race, but had I trained for it? No. I've been way too busy the past few months to take hours out of my dad and weekend to run. I had a house to finish and move into and a wedding to plan and attend. Anyways. I'm thinking about running the Nashville one in April. We will see. On another note the winter weather had us trapped on our hill for four days, before the temperatures reached 32 and the ice could melt some. Kev and I definitely enjoyed spending some quality time together and had a blast sledding.

Power Outage

Christmas Day we had lots of ice topped off with snow. Our power went out about 4:00 that afternoon. Luckily, I had already made a huge pot of chili. About two hours later, it came back on just long enough for us to eat dinner and shower (since I have a well, I don't get water when there's not electricity). By 10:00 it was out again and that's the last time we had power. I have a fireplace so keeping warm wasn't a problem. Kev split some wood and we were good to go. I pulled the camping cookware down from the attic. I cooked sausage, eggs, and toast for breakfast.  Warmed chili up for lunch. And made grilled chicken and cheese sandwiches for dinner.  I even pulled some cookie dough from the freezer and grilled cookie dough. We had to flip them like pancakes to cook them thoroughly, but they we delicious.  After sleeping on the mattress in front if the fireplace and still no power, we got the ok from his dad to bring all the animals out to his land....
