Red Beans and Rice

My grandmother's health has declined in the last few years. A couple of years ago my mom asked me to make my grandmother's Red Beans and Rice for a family gathering.  Recipe out of Southern Accent cookbook All of the ingredients. (Notice the medal display project in the background.) She always used sausage instead of the ham the recipe calls for. I made a huge pot Sunday because dad was going to come up and I was going to send some home for mom. However, he couldn't come because of the weather, so we ate on it for a few days and I froze the rest.

Running Medal Display

I have wanted a medal display for awhile now. Every now and then I will browse etsy looking at them, but just can't pay $35-$40 for something that I can make. Last week I had to get wooden dowel rods for a Dr. suess photo booth for school (that is another post). While looking I found a large piece of wood that would work perfectly for what I wanted. You would think with all this scrap wood around here I would have found one already, but I haven't and this one already had the finished edges. I grabbed a packet of screw hooks and a purple paint pen. Using a ruler, I drew a straight line where I wanted the screws to go. Then I marked every inch and a half for a screw hook. I'll be honest, at first I was screwing them in with my fingers. They started to hurt and I couldn't get them tight. Kev saw what I was doing and told me to use the screw driver to turn it. It made it SO much easier! All screwed in. Since we have been snowed in, I used paint that I had here....

A New Name

I've mentioned needing a new blog name since it is technically not just me and the animals anymore. I thought and thought about names that wouldn't reveal our last names. I woke up this morning singing the song we danced to at our wedding, Michael Buble Everything . One of the lines says...   And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times It's you, it's you, you make me sing. You're every line, you're every word, you're everything. So I came up with Our Crazy Life . The domain name changed too. I mean I couldn't leave it the same. We are now located at ourcrazylifewithouranimals.com. I couldn't leave the animals out. Well actually ourcrazylife was taken. So here we are...

And Another...

Ice day! Come on now it's March 3 and we received a good inch of sleet last night. They canceled school around 8:00. It's getting freaking ridiculous. I'm not sure how many days we have missed. There's been so many snow/ice days, some on the weekends and some during the week. We already go to school later than most, so this will put us going the second week in June. I really feel bad for Northern Arkansas where some schools have up to 20 days. They're even giving up their Spring Break! Anyways back to today... The high is 25 and the weather man just said that if we do not get above freezing today, this will be the coldest March day in history!!! Go away winter. I NEED warmer air and sunshine! Other snow/ice posts this winter: December  8 February 4 February 8 -9

A Painted House

We'll our house is finally painted! That is all except the garage door. They didn't have a door the color of our trim, so dad is going to paint it. The back. The gable is shaped funny because that is where the screened porch roof will go. Garage side. I think we are going to go back and put shutters on all the windows. Dad really wants to for some reason. Front view from bottom of hill. Front view the side. The wood beams still need to be added to the front gables and stone around the chimney, but we are getting there. Kev put most of the gutter on Friday. He still has to put on the down spouts, but we are waiting for the collector boxes to come in. Now if winter would just go away things would speed up.

Perla's New Toy

Perla loves her new cat tree. It was definitely a great buy and keeps her from playing and scratching on the furniture.  We put in in the office at first, but she never played on it. Once we moved it into the living room she was fine. I don't mind so much since it is dark brown it goes with everything.

Sunday House Projects

Dad finished painting the garage Saturday. Sunday I stained the attic stairs and grouted the dog shower. The start... The finished product... The grouted unwiped dog shower.... The finished product... Now to just add the trim pieces.
